when graphics designers get bored
major/career.. etc? opinion please!?
I’ve always pondered about what I should do or major in in the future, so just wanted to ask for your opinions on this.. I’ve been interested in English/history/law and computers/graphics/animation. since middle school my “what i want to be when I grow up” has always been something in those 2 categories. I’m taking computer programming right now and its pretty good, i’m ok in the art things if i was to be a graphic designer. on the english part, I’m in speech/debate teem, law club, mock trial, teen court, and enjoy all of them, I plan on taking some extra history/gov classes later on if not at school then at a community college. Its still early for me to decide but I still want to hear opinions…
oh and also I have a (smaller) interest in business/politics/economy and definitely dislike math and science. its not like i cant do them but i just get really bored and uninterested in those classes.
Sounds like you have many diverse interests in school–9 categories actually, instead of 2 you indicated. With English, one can be a teacher/writer for example. With Law, one can be a lawyer or a para-legal for example. You get the idea. There should be guidance counselors in your school to steer you in the right direction. There’s also a book/self-test that you can take based on what you’re “good at” that can give you some-what of a determination as to what career path to take. An important factor to many is also what you will be earning. If teaching for example eventually becomes your calling, you will not be making good money unless you progress to the college level being a professor. This obviously means things we like may not pay well. Also, what we “like”, we may not be “good at”. Plus, in the USA anyway because I don’t know where you’re from, getting hired anywhere in the first place is a challenge due to the economy, therefore, I would recommend to choose what is in demand career-wise. Again, school counselors have this info or you can do your own research on-line. By the way, a nurse must take chemistry and I’m sure most nurses never liked the class, however, it’s necessary to take that class in order to become a nurse but the chances of ever really using all those equations on the job are next to none. A police officer is bombarded by law classes in the academy, however once on the job one would never remember all that stuff. The best lawyer/doctor still needs to use reference material in the course of his duties and must also keep up w/changes like an in-come tax preparer does. It’s good that you have alot of interests as you won’t feel you don’t have enough career choices. Better to have more options than fewer. Good Luck!

5 Best Brochure Graphic Design Techniques
Do you need great ideas for the graphic design of your brochures? Well, in my experience in brochure printing, I have seen five great graphic design techniques that always work and have never failed to attract people.
For the benefit of other would be designers out there, I will share these great techniques to design and print brochures.
Let us start with my favorite and the most effective, the attention seeker design.
1. The attention seeker design – This type of design is basically the technique that uses questions. For example, a brochure that has the words “Are you depressed?” on its cover is an attention seeker design. It asks people about its issues to attract attention. It is a simple and very powerful technique that does target the particular readers you want quickly. It is perfect for brochures that are part of awareness campaigns where you want to target specific people to give information to.
2. The poster brochure – this is a more visual design technique. This type of graphic design belittles text in favor of a compelling and well-designed cover. For example, a brochure about child exploitation may have a very powerful picture of children being forced to work in the streets. The picture alone, compelling as it is should be enough for people to pick up the brochure. The only problem though with this technique is that you have to be good at taking or creating images and photographs.
3. The classic corporate – The classic corporate design is the mainstay of post public relations and client relations color brochures. This design involves clean and crisp lines, simple colors and the judicious use of the company logo. While this may seem boring, it is actually the style that is most in use today. It is a safe mode of designing that should always be part of your retinue of design proposals.
4. The symbol brochure – Another great design technique. This kind of design involves using one very memorable symbol at the cover of your color brochure. This can be an embossed logo of the company, or an intricate picture of the product that is being sold. Symbols usually stick in people’s mind and they will have an easier time recalling your brochure because of it. This is a great type of design if you want to promote one particular product or concept.
5. The mystery brochure – finally, this particular type of design technique involves creating a brochure cover that makes people wonder. Usually this design has some text that entices people to the information inside the brochure. For example, the brochure message can say, “discover the 10 rules of making money fast. Take a look inside!” Attracting people with mysterious and interesting information almost always guarantees a reader for your brochure. So use this as well in your own designs.
These are the five best techniques for graphic design in color brochures. It is not really about the skill you have in designing brochures. It is about how the message is delivered to people. Good Luck!

how do i become a games graphics designer?
Im a 14 year old female and ever since i can remember, art has been my world. I draw when im at home, at school, on the bus to school and sometimes i’ll stay up a little later to draw. but now i really want to see if their are any jobs out there that would like me to become their games graphic designer. my favourite video game is kingdom hearts and i would love to, one day, design characters for them if the series continues! I’m doing my GCSE’s at the moment and i get above average in most of my academic subjects, but i get A*’s for art, iv also got an art scholarship (which i got in year 7) I’m also worried that my GCSE grades wont be high enough for me to be accepted, do you need a GCSE in ICT to do graphic designing because I hate ICT (mainly because of the organisation of data, which is boring) so is it possible i might be able to become a graphics designer?
I just want to clarify, you do not need to get any fancy grades. You can simply be a chick in her underwear living in your parent’s basement.
If you can draw good, and use photoshop (or any other graphics program) then you’re golden!
Just draw cool stuff in a graphics program, put it on a website (you can even use a site like deviant art, but I suggest getting an actual domain and portfolio yourself) and advertise your work all over game sites!
If your work looks great, you will have no problem getting request to make game graphics for them.
