ok so one day while playing a very graphics intesive game my vid just glitched and froze… first i thought my gt8500 crapped but hten i plugged in another card and after 2 mins of playing same thing happened… so im pretty sure the PCI-E slot died. after inspecting it close with magnify glass and a lamp right inside it i couldnt see any burn marks or anything… is it possible for the slot just to die? right now im using on board vid and running 5-10 FPS… 2-4 while actually doing something intersting… now at random times the comp BSOD’s with a hardware failure… are my suspesions correct? i know you’d prob need exact BSOD code and some other stuff but from my bried description… thanks everyone… oh one more thing while running a vid stress test it occurs… has 2 be the slot right?
This doesn’t sound like a problem with your PCI-E slot. They tend to either work or not work so it shouldn’t work for a few minutes then stop under heavy load. The problem sounds more like what happens when you have over-heating issues and the BSOD is usually a result of a problem with your RAM which could also be due to overheating. I would search for some software that will help you monitor the temperature of both your CPU and GPU to help you troubleshoot this.
Another thing is it may be worthwhile downloading the latest drivers for your graphics card and also making sure you have an up-to-date version of direct-x.
In summary my thoughts are that it is an overheating issue. Try removing the side off your case and placing a fan next to it to increase ventilation and also look into more effective cooling methods such as bigger fans for your case.

How do I break my graphics card w/o physically damaging it?
It can’t be obvious that I’ve been tampering with it physically.
The graphics card has a heat sink, so it would not be possible to break it by jamming something in the fan and running a stress test to make it overheat.
I need to do this so I get a replacement by my warranty. Its about to expire so I thought of making use of it while I still have it.
