HOw can the average 3D hobbiest, using Vue 5 Infinite, create realistic renders?
Average meaning i’m not good at modeling, don’t even have modeler now.. Have Mac G5 1.8Gzh 2GB RAM single processor, don’t have any otther computers to help in Rendering network…so my renders if i make em full quality will last a long time. But anyways, i’ve made a couple of pictures that look more like basic COMPUTER graphics and not realistic so how is it Other people can make things that look real?
I recently made a house.. it looks good,, however when i render textures and everything seems like cheap computer graphics.. on the other hand, using the same program other people’s work i’ve seen in galleries, or in e-onsoftware’s website, look realistic .
What exactly do you need to make your images look realistic? is it probably the fact that i’m rendering everything in the lowerst quality possible due to the fact my computer is not fast enough for the others, or maybe i need to learn some special techniques?

Basics of 3D Architectural Rendering and 3D Architectural Animation
Architectural rendering is the process of preparing and displaying proposed design of an object or structure in order to help the designer visualize and construct it. It can be a product, machine, small structure, residential home or commercial facility. In the past the architects or product designers would just prepare hand-drawn sketches of the various sections of the building or product components. This method was quite inefficient since it was almost impossible to compare the constructed unit with what you had initially dreamed of.
Today, Computer Aided Design (CAD) based architectural techniques have changed the game for architects and designers. It’s now possible for you to virtually see the proposed design in complete 3D environment during conceptualization phase without waiting for its construction. With the advent of multimedia presentation tools such as 3D Max, Maya, Blender, etc, it is now possible to apply color and expressions to your building or object in order to test different permutations and combinations. In this way you can get a definite idea and suggest some changes to make it as desired.
CAD based 3D Architectural Rendering helps you in the initial phases of design and planning of the project and removes the time consuming manual processes of preparing drawings which often results in erroneous and inefficient construction. 3D Architectural rendered images and models can be used for design calculations, real-time visualization and sales presentation.
3D animation is a more advanced graphical presentation technique that produces graphics like fly-throughs, 3D tours, walk throughs, cartoon films, TV commercials and website design. 3D animations generate tremendous interest compare to 2D graphics and are very useful in real life applications.
3D animations are generated based on a design concept or theme. This theme is further explored and experimented using design details and its communication flow called storyboards. Based on this flow animators prepare the character or object design to develop basic frames. All the characters and objects involved in the project are called 3D models that are stored in the computer as data file. You can pull out relevant information needed to view or render 3D models any time and modify as per design requirements.

Computer Graphics?
Depth-buffer visibility is used for properly rendering a scene so that only pixels which are in front of the existing pixel are drawn. Any pixel which lies behind the existing pixel is not shown on screen. This checking is performed using a depth buffer which is a 2-dimensional array of depth or z values which map 1 to 1 to the frame-buffer. Normally modern games use (24-bit Z/8-bit stencil) or (32bit) z buffers. So you have 1 depth value for every pixel in the frame buffer.
Back-face removal is a performance enhancing optimization in which the faces whose normals are opposite to the direction of the camera are not drawn i.e. culled. This way they don’t need to be textured/lit/rendered.
You will have to sort the polygons as per their depth values if you want to know their visibility prior to sending them to the GPU for rendering.
Between the two techniques, can you compare their efficiencies or when one might want to use one or rather than the other?
There is only one technique described, i.e. back-face removal. Sorting the polygons by depth value is only done if you need those values as part of your program, since the renderer won’t make them available to you once you’ve sent them off. Most graphics systems will do back face removal automatically for you if it’s configured to do so. But rarely does one need to know the depth values of the polygons unless it is useful for a non-rendering related operation in the program, or if someone wanted to make an exceptional case for a particular polygon etc. Graphics systems are sufficiently well advanced nowadays that almost every conceivable rendering operation is done in hardware for you. Doing these things in software is almost always inefficient and unnecessary. I suppose there are cases where it is necessary, but I’ve never seen code that handles sorting of depth values for rendering purposes, or special back face removal routines. One exception might be with game consoles such as Playstation 2 that don’t come with built-in vertex processing hardware. Even in these cases however, ther is usually some other kind of architecture in place to handle it such as extra math coprocessors that can be programmed to act as vector processing units.
Generally speaking, back face removal involves a lot of math, but is necessary.
