Can someone recommend a good book on the aesthetics of visual graphics and web design?
I’m a good php programmer and i know photoshop, after effects and flash and am a decent graphic designer technically but frankly i feel i am missing some training in standard design practice. Can someone point me to a good book or tutorial or author who covers the art of of graphic design from a purely visual perspective? I don’t need a programming how to, I know them, i need guidance in style, colors, layers, depth, shadow, mood, font usage, good use of different effects, etc.

what is the best program/’s to make a 3d game with decent graphics?
i already have darkbasic and softimage xsi/3d design (both full programs)
but there kinda hard to use (i cant find any good tutorials on them) i use to use game maker (2d one) that was easy so i disided to move up and wow can u say big difference
and decent graphics as in oblivion (or maybe a litle bit worse then oblivion) and im willing to spend as long as i need to program a game so…
but im willing to pay anything for a good program or programs if not can someone redirect me to some good tutorials for xsi and darkbasic
p.s i no some programing language
There are a couple of options, and you do not need to be a wizard in programming – though knowing how to do a bit of programming cannot hurt, obviously.

Next, you need to get a game engine / authoring tool. Several options include:
1) Blender (free) – the new version 2.49 has a great built-in game engine. And a lot of things can be done without actual programming, even though the built-in language (Python) is one of the easiest languages to learn. Runs on Mac, Windows and Linux (there’s even a mobile phone version).

The major advantage of Blender is that EVERYTHING is built-in: 3d creation, texture creation/painting, animation, rendering, physics, and so on, and so forth. Very powerful and comparable to 3d animation packages that cost a LOT of money.
Games developed in Blender are cross platform and run on Mac, Windows and Linux.

For a great free/open source VIABLE game authoring package/engine, I would say: go for Blender. Your only choice.

Commercial alternatives:
1) Unity: unity3d.com/
Another great game engine, with a lot going for it. Scripting is based on relatively easy to learn javascript or more complex C#. Also a lot of built-in game functions.
Runs on Windows and Mac. Cross platform development, even to iPhone and the web (plugin needed). Not nearly as many tutorials exist for this, but there are a couple. The documentation is good:

The indy version costs $199. (no iPhone dev) The pro $1499.
And you can use XSI to create the content. Blender would also be an option for modeling.

Really nice one, and quite affordable. I have a license, and it works quite well. Javascript is used as a scripting language. Use XSI to create the content.
4) 3d Game Studio

Seeing you are coming from a gamemaker background, I would say: go for Unity, Blender, DX studio or 3D Rad.
