Wanting to buy a PC for some graphic design classes. What do you recommend?
I already have a mac pro, but want to buy a desktop PC. I’m taking classes that use photoshop, illustrator, in design, and dreamweaver.
I have the software, but the PC version, not the MAC version. I have been wanting to buy a desktop PC for a while now…one that can handle graphics and other multimedia.
What should I get? My price range is $600-$800. I don’t need a monitor b/c I already have one.

What you need to do is build if you are wanting a PC that bad. It really only takes a screwdriver, a static wrist band and just a little time, but not that much time…

This system is ready to run, for $530, but if you want top level graphics, you will need to add a graphics card. I really believe that for your starting out you can get by with the onboard graphics. As you progress you can add a graphics card later. When you add a good graphics card it will be top of the line for performance and games and graphics. All for about $700 for the complete system… Try that with a department store model. Some will argue with me on this, but for the money paid then you are comming out way ahead…
Divide up the hard drive into at least 3 drives when partitioning and formatting. Meaning give vista a C/drive of 50gigs and then divide the remainder as you wish such as 2 225′s or 3 150gig drives. Then when you use your computer only use the D and E drives for storage and leave the C for drivers and updates. This will keep the operating system fast and organized, while you have ample storage in your machine… If you have any questions feel free to email me…
By the way vista x64bit is lovely compared to xp, good gosh, my computer runs circles around itself with vista vs. xp. Only retarded, (not mentally handicapped) but retarded people stick with 1999 operating systems with no support… Oh yeah, they have support, the “end task” button as a program is trying to close from an error… That is the only good thing about xp vs. windows 98, those errors do not crash the system when they crash it just crashes the programs. Vista finds a solution to the problem and there is no more problem…
I play a game called Stalker Clear Sky that was from day one, XP or Vista clairified by all the top websites to be the buggiest game known to man so far. It is a really good game and many people will suffer through the bugginess to play the game, even though it crashes. I put this game on my PC with the same results for the first week that everyone else reports. I begin to watch vista start downloading update after update for 2 weeks strait, own its own and I have been playing another 2 months now without a single crash to desktop…. Thanks vista… I didn’t even send one error report out of my computer… Those same “downgrade to xp people” are still crashing to desktop…. To design software, you’re better off with Windows as almost every software written will be compatible with it.
For the minimum requirements, it depends of the software you’re going to use. The bigger the geometry of the models you’re planning to create, the best hardware you’re going to need. But as you won’t be placing objects on the map as a level designer, your computer won.’t need to see more than one object at the time so it’ll be less performance-hungry (still, depending of the geometry of the created characters)..
