3d graphics workstation
Graphics card compatibility with the PC?
We have a Dell 390 currently containing a NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500 graphics board.
We also have an HP xw6600 workstation containing a NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700 graphics board.
I haven’t found a site that lists compatible upgraded graphics boards to PCs.
If there is one, let me know.
I’d like to upgrade to the GeForce 9600 GSO 512 or GeForce 9600 GT 512 on both PCs.
These PCs are part of a virtual vehicle trainer for a business application running the Presagis Vega Prime visualization system. Every so often, visually displayed vehicle movement appears jerky on the 3D and other times, the movement is fine. I’m suspecting that the existing graphics boards are not “high-end” enough to do the visualization job consistently.
Both computers would support a PCI-Express graphics card like the GeForce 9600. You may need to purchase a 6-pin PCI-Express power adapter or a new power supply that has one on it. The minimum power supply required by the 9600 is 300w so both machines meet that, the HP even more so.
Bear in mind that workstation graphics cards like the Quadro series are meant for digital content creation, auto-cad, and science related fields. They aren’t meant to render like a gaming card which is clocked at higher speeds to maximize framerates.

I have a problem, I just need advice on which of these 3 to buy
I want the card for use on direct 3d and opengl applications. Also I am coming from a design pov so i’m not so concerned about gaming ability.

I would also recommend the 8800GT, It’s a great card and I have always found nvidia a lot better than ATI. Also if you have vista then you can use Direct X 10.
